One of the many fantastic things about the Atlanta dining scene is how many chefs and restaurants are dedicated to the farm to table movement. Simply put, this philosophy embraces a sustainable approach to agriculture and dining. There has shown to be a benefit to eating local or being a ‘locavore’ - people who both produce and consume local food, as well as the environment as a whole.

Details: Sunday 10/2 11am-5pm. Whippoorwill Hollow Farm. $20+.

This event celebrates and embraces the idea of eating locally, featuring 30 of Atlanta and Athens’ best farm to table chefs (and some of my personal faves) - including Ron Eyester (Rosebud/The Family Dog), Jay Swift (4th and Swift), Justin Burdett (Miller Union), Shane Devereaux (Top Flr), Eric Ottensmeyer (Leon’s Full Service), Ford Fry (JCT/No. 246), and Marc Taft (Chicken and the Egg). Get the full list here.
The festival adds two new activities this year: “Meals from the Market” where you can chat up local farmers for growing tips while learning and tasting simple recipes made from the seasonal vegetables they are selling; and the F’ n’ Chef Competition that pits three local chefs in an Iron Chef-like competition judged by local food culture celebrities.
In addition to all the amazing food activities, the fest also features an interactive Kid’s Village, local music, festival market and craft demonstrations.
